My brother just purchased an 06 GT for 9,800. 25,000 miles on it though. That is not a bad price for an 06. If you live in a small town get out of there and look to a bigger city where there is more competition among car dealerships (don't go to auto lots) Bigger cities have to compete for business and are willing to lower there prices and have lower prices.

You can buy a cheap one, but it will not be good... or you can buy a good one, but it will not be cheap. Look around until you find one at the price you want to pay and at the price you are looking at you should find a good one.

Go to a used car lot, I just got a 2008 mustang (used with 5000 miles) a few months back for under your max price and that was after I taxed, titled and did everything. The new the car likely the fewer the number of miles, but you could likely get a 06 or 07 with under 30000 miles for a good price as well. .

A 2005 Mustang has a dealer retail between $10,518 - $16,626. Most models should be in your price range. Because this car will be 4 years old expect some wear and tear. It won't be perfect.

The 2006 and 2007 models will cost more. But not all models will be in your price range.

You may also be able to find a newer 2008 model in this price range. It should be in better condition because it will be newer. But you will only find the more basic models for this price. Don't expect a lot of bells and whistles.

Should be able to find these locally. Watch your local newspaper. Many local newspapers will have on-line versions of their classified section. Watch your local used car lots.

Many areas will have local shopper magazines with used cars for sale in your local area, within about a 150 mile radius. These publications are usually found in your local gas station or convenience store. You may find your Mustang there.

As you have already learned, avoid buying over the Internet. Only consider cars that you can inspect and test drive before you buy. I would never buy a vehicle sight unseen. It would be all too easy to get stuck with someone elses junk.

I have a 91 mustang gt 5 speed that is naturally aspirated and fast with brand new gt-40 crate motor and new world class super duty t-5 tranny plus lots of extras.
